Alberta
College of Art & Design [ACAD]
::
(ACAD) is one of only four degree-granting, publicly-funded
Art & Design colleges in Canada, the others being the Emily
Carr Institute of Art & Design in Vancouver, the Ontario
College of Art & Design in Toronto and the Nova Scotia College
of Art & Design in Halifax.
Founded in 1926, ACAD has been a major contributor to Canada's
visual culture in the 20th century, with many of its graduates
gaining significant national and international reputations as
artists and designers. With an annual budget approaching $12
million, and employing over 150 staff, ACAD provides accredited
degree-standard education and learning opportunities to more
than 1000 students enrolled in full- and part-time studies in
a wide range of Art & Design studio disciplines together
with academic study in the history of Art & Design, theory
and criticism and related subject areas. Additionally, approximately
1500 students are registered each year in Continuing Education
courses, including 700 in children's programs.
the challenge
::
The Alberta College of Art & Design requested re-development
of their existing 3 year old website to add functionality and
interactivity. They were unhappy with previous online branding
efforts and gave a thumbs down to poor information architecture
because the user experience was confusing to say the least.
interactive solution
::
TMC Visionpool's Creative Director and designers worked for
3 months with ACAD's web committee to optimize the information
architecture, site map and design. Overall functionality and
quality user experience was our number one priority providing
any information available only two clicks away. TMC Visionpool
impliemented our MercuryCMS Content Management
System which links all of the dynamic content
pages to a robust Database. The MercuryCMS Content
Management
System allows any of the 12 website content contributors access
to make any type of content change or revision at any time,
anywhere in the world.
the result ::
The ACAD website has generated overwhelming positive feedback
from its content contributors and users. The site has generated
more than19 million hits to date. ACAD administrators
and content contributors find the MercuryCMS Content
Management
System] very powerful and easy to use which allows them to update
the website and keep the information dynamic and vital. |
